PVC impact problems: diagnosis and additives

Why PVC profiles and pipes fail on impact and how impact modifiers fit the diagnosis with stabilization and process.

Low impact is rarely “just resin”

Drop-test breaks, field cracking and pipe/profile scrap usually mix formulation and process: missing or under-dosed impact modifier, weak thermal stabilization, unbalanced lubrication and aggressive thermal history.

Diagnosis order

Start from the symptom and part type (profile vs pipe). Confirm the formula has a modifier suited to rigid matrix, that extrusion sits in the fusion window and that thermal degradation is not masking mechanical results.

  • Separate process failure from formulation failure.
  • Review impact-modifier dosage.
  • Check thermal stabilizer and color after aging.
  • Trial specimens with and without lubrication tuning.

Plectus path

Plectus Impact Modifier for PVC is the cluster hub; thermal stabilizer and PE wax join when the diagnosis points to color, blooming or flow. Profile and pipe landings detail the application; this article closes the technical rationale.
