Calcium carbonate in compounds: cost vs processability

When mineral filler cuts cost without killing flow: grade, dosage, coupling and trials in PVC, compounds and masterbatch.

Filler is not only “cheaper”

Raising carbonate without grade, surface and matrix-filler interface usually returns high torque, impact loss and scrap. Cost gains only hold when processability follows.

Quick diagnosis

Separate formulation symptoms (modulus, elongation, impact) from process symptoms (torque, fusion, surface). In PVC and compounds, coupling and lubrication belong in the same diagnosis.

  • Define goal: cost, opacity or bulk.
  • State matrix and target filler %.
  • Check coupling before blaming carbonate.
  • Trial with and without wax/stearate tuning.

Plectus next step

Compound, masterbatch, PVC and coatings landings detail the application. Request a Calcium Carbonate sample and, if mechanics drop with filler, evaluate a coupling agent in the same package.
